Tooth-Colored Fillings in Layton, UT

Tooth-Colored Fillings | Davis Dental CareYour smile is beautiful, and we plan to keep it that way!

Up until recently, metal amalgam fillings were the most common choice for fillings in your back teeth while white fillings were reserved for the teeth visible when you smile. When you have a metal filling, they can often darken your entire tooth and are visible when you yawn and laugh – something that many people do not like. Amalgam fillings also require the removal of significant healthy tooth structure for secure placement.

Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

At Davis Dental Care, we use tooth-colored fillings to restore the health of our patients’ smiles. Tooth-colored composite fillings provide a more conservative and attractive option for our patients.

Composite filling material is a combination of BPA-free plastic and a glass powder mixture. Dr. Hans Smith will only need to remove the decayed or damaged tooth structure, leaving your healthy tooth behind. Since the composite comes in a wide variety of colors, your filling will match your teeth perfectly and blend in with your smile.

Composite material is versatile. We can even use it to make small repairs to your teeth such as filling in gaps and chips. This process, called cosmetic dental bonding, is a great way to spruce up your smile affordably and without multiple dental appointments.

How Tooth-Colored Fillings WorkLayton Tooth-Colored Fillings | Davis Dental Care

Not every filling requires anesthetic. If we catch a cavity in its earliest stages, we may be able to avoid numbing your tooth. We will discuss this with you and make sure you are always completely comfortable for every procedure in our Layton, UT dental office.

Dr. Hans Smith will remove all traces of decay and bacteria and then prepare your tooth with a special solution to ensure a good seal with your composite filling. He will match your natural tooth color to the composite so that no one will notice your filling.

When he fills your cavity, Dr. Smith will apply composite material in layers and use a special curing light to harden it quickly. In most cases, you can chew on your filling right after treatment.

Once he fills your cavity completely, he will shape and polish your filling to achieve a natural appearance and feel. It will blend with your tooth and be invisible to the untrained eye.

Tooth-colored fillings last a long time when you care for them properly. As with all dentistry, maintaining good home care and regular dental exams are the best insurance to protect your smile.
